About CCMR
In 1978, in partnership with its academic affiliate, the Ann Arbor VA formed one of the first VA Health Services Research programs in the United States. This program was expanded in 1983 to become the Great Lakes Region Field Program. Ann Arbor served as the lead medical center of this multi-site field program, in partnership with affiliated VAs in surrounding states. In 1995, the program centralized research resources at a single center in Ann Arbor to support a more thematically focused research program as a Center of Excellence. Since its inception with five employees, it has grown to a nationally recognized VA Health Systems Research Center of Innovation, with approximately 200 employees, including 60 core investigators.
Our investigators are nationally recognized experts across a broad spectrum of disciplines, and most hold joint appointments at our academic affiliate—the world-renowned University of Michigan (U-M). They have published ground-breaking research findings and play highly visible service roles in policy development, clinical and operational leadership, and setting research agendas for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
Our Location |
CCMR is located at the University of Michigan’s (UMs) North Campus Research Complex within the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation (IHPI), the nation’s largest university-based health services research institute. IHPI brings together researchers from 24 health services research-focused centers and programs at UM and several nonprofit groups (of which CCMR is the largest) to facilitate collaborative research and innovation. Our partnership with and physical proximity to IHPI offers many significant benefits to CCMR and IHPI/UM, enhancing collaboration, innovation, and impact. More information about some of our shared programs can be found on the (training opportunities page).
